ADVANCED METABOLIC PANEL PLUS: Includes Kryptopyrrole Urinary Quantitative, Copper Serum, Zinc Plasma, Whole Blood Histamine, Ceruloplasmin, Vitamin D, TSH, CMP14, and Homocysteine. The Advanced Metabolic Panel Plus aids the practitioner in assessing levels of nutrients that are critical to brain health and in calculating free copper/oxidative stress. The Advanced Metabolic Panel Plus identifies imbalances that have been associated with Autism, Aspergers syndrome, ADD/HD, anxiety, Bipolar disorder, assaultive/aggressive/violent behavior, other mental and emotional conditions, and schizophrenia. The Kryptopyrrole Urinary Quantitative is an at-home collection kit. The at-home Kryptopyrrole collection kit includes all collection materials shipped to you, overnight return shipping back to our laboratory, running the test, reporting the results, and a receipt for services rendered that you can submit for insurance reimbursement.

The Whole Blood Histamine, Copper Serum, Zinc Plasma, Ceruloplasmin, Vitamin D, TSH, CMP14, and Homocysteine will require a blood draw. We will provide the patient with several patient service centers centrally located around the shipping address, instructions, and a laboratory requisition. The patient service center will handle the specimen collection to the requirements of our laboratory. These specimen collection requirements and methodologies are unique. They were modeled by the Original Pfeiffer Treatment Center, Founded by Dr. William J. Walsh. Performing specimen collections to these specifications will allow doctors and patients to have more accurate results that can be placed into personalized optimal functional ranges. Pyrroles, Copper, Zinc, & Histamine – THE REPEAT OFFENDERS: “For several years I was perplexed by the repeated presence of certain biochemical imbalances in completely different mental disorders. Ceruloplasmin is used in the evaluation of oxidative stress. When paired with copper, it is used to calculate free copper. When paired with other blood or urine copper tests, ceruloplasmin is used to help diagnose Wilson’s disease. This is due to a decreased ability to incorporate copper into apoceruloplasmin. In turn, free copper levels in plasma and tissue are greatly increased, especially in the liver and brain.

Vitamin D 25-Hydroxy: This test is ordered when an individual has low calcium and/or symptoms of vitamin D deficiency. This can appear as bone weakness/softness, or fractures in adults, or as rickets (bone malformation) in children.

The vitamin D test is for individuals at high risk of deficiency. It is used to monitor diseases that interfere with fat absorption. These diseases include cystic fibrosis or Crohn’s disease. This test also monitors the effectiveness of vitamin D, calcium, magnesium or phosphorus supplementation.

Individuals at risk of vitamin D deficiency include: older adults, individuals who have limited exposure to sunlight, individuals who are obese, or who have fat malabsorption.

Low levels of D-25 hydroxy are one of the earliest changes that show in individuals with early kidney failure.  People with kidney disease also show low levels.

High levels of D-25 hydroxy show due to diseases that can make vitamin D outside of the kidneys. The two primary diseases related to this are sarcoidosis or certain lymphomas.

Long term high levels of vitamin D can eventually lead to the damage of certain organs such as the kidneys and blood vessels via calcification. If magnesium levels are low, a physician may supplement both magnesium and calcium in order to eliminate a low calcium level that is resistant to vitamin D.

TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) is the most common test used to evaluate thyroid function and symptoms related to a thyroid disorder such as hyperthyroidism, or hypothyroidism. Produced by the pituitary gland, the primary role of TSH in the body is to stabilize amounts of T4 (thyroxine) and T3 (triiodothyronine) in the blood. This process controls how much energy the body burns.

The Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP14) is used in the evaluation of organ function and checks for conditions such as diabetes, liver disease, and kidney disease. The CMP may also be ordered to monitor conditions, such as hypertension, and to monitor patients taking medications for any kidney- or liver-related side effects. If a doctor is interested in following two or more individual CMP components, they may order the entire CMP because it offers more information and can give a more thorough assessment.

Homocysteine is ordered for a variety of clinical purposes including heart conditions, and vitamin b12 or folate deficiency. Testing homocysteine can be effective in identifying abnormal levels of B12 and folate before symptoms are present. Practitioners will order this test on patients who may be malnourished or with poor nutrition.  This includes the elderly, drug addicts, and alcohol addicts.

Requires a urine specimen and a blood draw.

Patient Preparation
Kryptopyrrole Quantitative Urine: Do not collect the first morning urine specimen. A second morning urine collection is preferred, but not required. Supplements containing vitamins or minerals should be stopped 12-24 hours prior to your urine collection. Antibiotics may cause an interfering substance and create a result that cannot be reported. However, do not go off any prescription medications unless advised by your ordering physician.

Bloodwork: A fasting specimen is required. Patients should fast for 12 hours prior to specimen collection. Supplements containing vitamins or minerals should be stopped 12-24 hours prior to your blood draw. Do not avoid supplements for longer than 24 hours. Sports drinks and energy drinks such as Redbull or Vitamin Water are known to contain levels of vitamins and minerals that would classify them as supplements. Please look at the vitamin and mineral information on your products. If they are considered a supplement, like Ensure, please discontinue them 12 hours prior to specimen collection. Anti-histamines, if approved by your practitioner, should be stopped 21 days prior to your blood draw. Discontinue any supplements containing Biotin for 72 hours prior to specimen collection.
