The aldosterone test evaluates a hormone made by the adrenal glands. Aldosterone works to help regulate sodium and potassium levels. This controls blood pressure and electrolytes in the body.
An aldosterone test is performed when a physician needs the following information:
- A measure of aldosterone released into the body.
- When looking for a tumor in the adrenal gland.
- Searching for the cause of low potassium, or high blood pressure.
