The SAMe/SAH Methylation Profile provides a functional assessment by evaluating the plasma levels of methionine, cysteine, SAM, SAH, homocysteine and cystathionine. In addition, this test provides the important “methylation index,” a ratio of SAM to SAH.

The methylation profile tests for:

• SAM, SAH ratio

Stable metabolism of methionine is very important for cellular methylation of DNA, proteins, and neurotransmitters.  Abnormal methionine metabolism may appear in anyone at any age. Usually associated with genetic/nutritional deficiencies, exposure to environmental toxins, and aging. Furthermore it is linked with a variety of symptoms such as cancer and cardiovascular disease.

The methylation profile test can be ordered due to the following conditions:

Trained physicians will often order the methylation profile test to refine the results from a whole blood histamine test for treatment of methylation.

By evaluating the plasma levels of cysteine, methionine, SAM, SAH, homocysteine and cystathionine, the methylation profile allows for a ratio of SAM to SAH also known as “methylation index” to be calculated. Test results will guide trained physicians on how to provide nutritional support to improve/normalize methionine metabolism therefore improving or preventing adverse conditions linked with inadequate methylation.
